Brick Township NJ Brief History:

For most of it’s early history, Brick was a fishing and agricultural center. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the New Jersey Shore was being developed as a resort area. Because of this, the main economy shifted from agriculture to commercial activities associated with seasonal resorts.

In the 1950’s, there was a large trend of suburbanization as droves of people left large cities in favor of more rural areas. The opening of the Garden State Parkway in 1954 made it possible to live somewhat inexpensively in an undeveloped region, but still commute to work in New York City.

Today, with approximately 76,200 residents, Brick Township is certainly no longer an undeveloped region. Regardless of the large size of the township, Brick remains the second safest place to live in America, according to 2003 FBI statistics.

Brick enjoys a location that is convenient to all the best attractions of Ocean County, including three pristine beaches of it’s own. Brick Township has a remarkable variety of recreational activities as well as shopping and easy access to other shore towns such as Pt. Pleasant and Bay Head.
